If you’re like me, you find yourself restless at times, wondering what are you doing. You think that it just seems like groundhog day over… and over… and over again. And this can be very stressful. It can weigh on you. And you just think, God… is this really what I’m supposed to be doing?
Well, take a breath. You’re not the only one. Many of us find ourselves in different stages in life, not sure what’s going on, where we’re going, how to get there, etc. And the problem we have is… are you ready for this?… Us!
That’s right. It’s us. We are the ones who are impatient. We’re the ones who con ourselves into thinking it’s all coming unraveled at the seams. But we need to remember that we are not at a loss in these times. It is important to remember who it is that has set the world in motion. And who it is, who’s plan is being lived out in our lives. It’s not ours. And that’s where the friction comes.
Too many times we loose sight that God has planned every aspect of the universe to play out, according to His will, in His time. And His timing is perfect. Proverbs 16:9 says, The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps. Proverbs 19:2 says, Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand. So, how then, do we traverse through these times when we feel like we’re just flapping in the wind with no direction?
Simple. Turn to the one who has authored all things. I know that sounds trite, but I heard a very profound statement once: There’s beauty in simplicity.
We cannot fool ourselves into thinking that somehow we can manufacture some outcome for our lives, just because we want it bad enough. The old adage of, “Work hard and you can achieve anything you desire”, should come with a caveat that says, “So long as God has willed it”.
So, does this mean that we shouldn’t strive for the desires of our heart? Well, not necessarily. We should… to an extent. That extent is: that we’ve submitted ourselves to God’s will for our lives and we seek His guidance in our decisions. And if it just so happens that our desires at that time do not align with His, than we must accept that it is His plan. And we know… because Romans 8 tells us… that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
So how, then do we navigate these stressful times? I have found a few passages of scripture that I personally turn to, in these times. Perhaps you will find them comforting, as well. I would love to hear your thoughts on other scriptures that you personally lean on in these times. Feel free to post them below. Here are those scriptures I mentioned: Psalm 77; Psalm 116; Colossians 3:12-16
Grace and peace to you.
